Hi, I am Caroline Gandra
Brazilian Photographer & Visual Artist based in the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, also known as Vancouver, Canada.
Growing up in Belo Horizonte, my mother, a talented seamstress and wedding dress designer, deeply influenced me. I spent countless hours in her studio, watching her sketch, choose fabrics, and bring her designs to life. This exposure to her intuitive process of creation had a profound impact on me, instilling a fascination with the form of the body and a strong commitment to process-oriented art that I carry with me today.
As a young artist, I also worked as a wedding photographer, capturing moments rich with emotion, strength, and vulnerability. This experience heightened my awareness of how identity and societal expectations play out in personal moments, which continues to be a central theme in my photography. Today, alongside my artistic practice, I continue to work as a wedding photographer, drawn to these celebrations' raw and intimate nature. Documenting these deeply personal events allows me to explore further themes of connection, ritual, and human expression - elements that resonate throughout my work.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Graphic Arts. As an artist, my practice extends beyond photography, drawing inspiration from psychology, poetry, philosophy, dance, music, and writing. These diverse influences continually shape and enrich my artistic journey.
